About Our Company

Image description

In 1978, Jay established J.T. Carpentry Company and became a subcontractor for Ryan Homes, Inc. The company expanded to a home and remodeling company in 1989, offering custom additions and home renovations in the Northern Virginia area.

Today, J.T. Carpentry Company employs five full-time carpenters. Jay works closely with the same set of sub-contractors that have contributed to our projects for more than 20 years. We are committed to customer satisfaction. We rarely advertise, and almost all of our projects have been contracted solely by referrals from our customers.

We welcome you to join our family of satisfied customers.

Our Process

Architectural Consultation

The construction process for additions and other large projects typically begins with a consultation with an architect of the homeowner's choice. Please see our referrals if you are interested in using an architect who has worked with us in the past. The goal for the design of the project should be outlined in a list of "must have" and "wish we had" items and general thoughts about aesthetic and lifestyle desires. Financial goals should include a target budget as well as possible optional pricing items. We have seen many award-promising designs that far exceed finacial goals. In these situations, the homeowners must meet again with the architect for new drawings, typically incurring additional design costs.

Initial Meeting with Jay

Once the plans have been agreed upon, Jay will meet the homeowners to review the plans and discuss the project and any concerns. This meeting helps both parties to develop and understand the scope of work and the best methods to approach the project.

Contract

A written proposal with final specifications will be provided to the homeowners for review and approval.

Building Process

After the contract is finalized, J.T. Carpentry Company will submit the plans to the County for the necessary permits. Construction now begins, and the owners are encouraged to stay involved throughout the building process. The typical building process begins with excavation...

What to Expect

During the project, you should be prepared for people coming and going from your home, moving furniture and personal valuables, storage of dumpsters, and the use of keys and bathrooms. We also usually ask our customers to keep pets and children out of the construction area for their safety. Although the remodeling of your home is an exciting process, you need to expect some inconvenience and disorder during construction. Although we are neat and orderly and seal off work areas, some dust will drift out.
